The Detroit Institute of Arts

The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) is an extensive art collection in midtown Detroit. The museum consists of more than 100 galleries, which cover a space of over 650,000 square feet. The collection boasts over 60,000 works of art cumulatively valued at over one billion dollars. Located in the Cultural Center Historic District, the DIA is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The museum also features live music and a 1,150-seat theater showing classic films, documentaries, and family movies and screenings under the stars.

Monday & Tuesday: Closed. Wednesday & Thursday: 10 0:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Friday: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Adults: $8; Seniors $6; Children (6-17): $4; College Students: $5

    Permanent exhibits at the DIA include the finest African Art collection in the US and a diverse and rich collection of Egyptian Art. you can also enjoy exciting traveling exhibitions that include Patti Smith: Camera Solo, Five Spanish Masterpieces, and Picasso and Matisse: The DIA's Prints and Drawings. 
  • Do they present live music and films?

    Yes. The Detroit Film Theatre is a 1,500 seat theater showing independent and classic films and fun under the star screenings. Friday Night Live! features sounds from around the world with live music from international acts.
